What is a SPO2 Probe

The full name of a SPO2 probe is a blood oxygen saturation probe. It refers to fixing a fingertip probe on the patient's finger, using the finger as a transparent container holding hemoglobin, and using red light with a wavelength of 660 nm and near-infrared light with a wavelength of 940 nm as the light sources. By measuring the light conduction intensity passing through the tissue bed, it calculates the hemoglobin concentration and blood oxygen saturation. The SPO2 probe is used for monitoring the blood oxygen levels of various patients and is usually connected to an electrocardiogram monitor.

Importance of SPO2 Probe

The blood oxygen level is an important physiological parameter of the respiratory system, reflecting the health status of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. It plays a crucial role in the prevention and diagnosis of human diseases. The SPO2 probe is an essential device for monitoring blood oxygen saturation.

The SPO2 probe is used to monitor the blood oxygen saturation in the human body. It can be applied to fingers, toes, earlobes, or the soles of newborns' feet. Given that the SPO2 probe provides continuous monitoring and is non-toxic and non-invasive, it is very useful in certain clinical applications. It is primarily employed in: post-operative and anesthesia care units, neonatal care and neonatal intensive care units, and during emergencies.
